Role of the Parish Nurse

Personal Health Counselor
• Discuss health issues and problems with
individuals
• Make home, hospital and nursing home visits
as needed
• She does not perform invasive procedures
(those activities requiring a Doctor’s order)
such as changing dressings, giving injections
or cleansing wounds

Health Educator
• Seeks to educate and support individuals of all
ages through a variety of educational activities
and support groups (i.e. VPs, Care of Congregation,
etc)

Referral Source
• Acts as a liaison to other congregational
resources, to community services and
resources available
Facilitator
• Recruits, coordinates and resources volunteers
within the congregation
Interpreter of Relationship Between Faith and
Health
• In all activities, seeks to promote an understanding
of the relationship between lifestyle,
attitudes, faith and well-being
